Program Overview
The Agricultural Education and Advocacy bachelor’s degree at the University of Kentucky prepares students to become dynamic leaders in teaching, outreach, and communication within the agricultural industry. This program blends agricultural science with educational methods and communication strategies, giving students the tools to inspire others and promote the importance of agriculture in both local and global communities. With more than 200 hours of teaching experience and the opportunity to earn a teaching license in Agricultural Education (Rank III certification), graduates are well-prepared for careers as educators, extension agents, advocates, and nonprofit leaders. Students gain hands-on experience across various agricultural disciplines—including animal science, plant science, agricultural mechanics, and economics—and can tailor their degree through one of three focus areas: Agricultural Teacher Education, Agricultural Service and Advocacy, or Agricultural Industrial Education. Known for its strong emphasis on multiculturalism and international experiences, this nationally recognized program equips future leaders to educate and advocate in classrooms, boardrooms, and beyond.

"I’ve been able to find my dream career thanks to the Agricultural Education program. I had the opportunity to learn ‘people’ skills at the same time I was enrolled in turf management courses, and now I’m representing Dow AgriSciences at golf tournaments and trade shows. How can an avid amateur golfer do better than that?"
