Who is this program for?
The One Health Graduate Certificate is designed for graduate students who want to expand their understanding of health beyond the boundaries of a single discipline. Students are encouraged to use the certificate to gain perspectives outside their primary area of study.
Program Overview
Health challenges rarely exist in isolation. The One Health Graduate Certificate at the University of Kentucky prepares graduate students to understand and address the complex connections among human health, animal health and the environment.
Through an interdisciplinary curriculum, you'll explore how fields such as human and veterinary medicine, public health, epidemiology, environmental health, food safety, toxicology, wildlife ecology and conservation intersect. You'll learn to examine emerging health challenges from multiple perspectives and develop collaborative, science-based solutions that promote the well-being of people, animals and ecosystems.
The 9-credit graduate certificate is designed to complement graduate study across a wide range of disciplines and can help you develop an interdisciplinary perspective applicable to research, policy and practice.

What You'll Learn
The One Health Graduate Certificate requires 9 credit hours: two required courses totaling 6 credits and one 3-credit elective.
Required Courses
ONE 616: One Health in Action — 3 credits
Explore One Health concepts and their application to interconnected human, animal and environmental health challenges.
ONE 795: Research in One Health — 3 credits
Develop experience applying interdisciplinary One Health approaches through research.
Guided Elective — 3 Credits
Students select one elective that supports their academic and professional goals while expanding their interdisciplinary knowledge and communication skills. Students are encouraged, though not required, to choose a course outside their primary department or discipline.
