Program Overview
The Landscape Architecture bachelor’s degree at the University of Kentucky combines art, science, and environmental stewardship to prepare students to design meaningful and sustainable outdoor spaces. From public parks and urban plazas to campuses, streetscapes, and green infrastructure, landscape architects shape the spaces where communities live, work, and gather. This program teaches students how to create human environments that are functional, beautiful, and ecologically sound, with coursework in design studios, plant identification, digital graphics, soil science, ecology, and more. Students also explore advanced topics like regional planning, cultural landscape preservation, and GIS. Graduates are equipped for careers in both public and private sectors, working with design firms, government agencies, or nonprofits to tackle critical issues like climate resilience, community development, and land conservation. With hands-on learning opportunities, including projects with the Community and Economic Development Initiative of Kentucky (CEDIK), students gain real-world experience creating vibrant, sustainable places across the state. If you’re passionate about design, the environment, and community impact, Landscape Architecture offers a creative and purposeful career path.
