Program Overview

The Music Industry BA at the University of Kentucky prepares students for careers in the business, management, production, promotion and innovation sides of music. This interdisciplinary program brings together coursework in arts administration, music, media arts, entrepreneurship and experiential learning to help students understand how music is created, distributed, promoted, monetized and experienced in today’s evolving industry. No audition or prior performance experience is required.

What You'll Learn

Students in the Music Industry BA develop the professional, creative and business skills needed to work across the commercial and nonprofit music sectors. Through coursework and hands-on experiences, students will learn how to:

  • Communicate effectively with artists, audiences, managers and collaborators
  • Understand music business operations, including recording, publishing, licensing, distribution and streaming
  • Support live event coordination, concert promotion and production
  • Apply marketing, management and entrepreneurial strategies in music industry settings
