This program blends a deep exploration of visual arts with innovative teaching methods to prepare you for a meaningful career as a K-12 art educator. Through hands-on studio work, education theory, and practical classroom experiences, you'll develop the skills to nurture artistic talent and promote the importance of the arts in schools and communities. Graduates are equipped to become licensed art teachers, community arts leaders, or advocates for arts education. The nationally accredited and state certified art education teacher licensure program in the School of Art & Visual Studies provides a unique four-year undergraduate program in which more than 65 percent of our students graduate with a dual degree in studio art and art education. Our program in art education prepares students in the liberal arts tradition with courses that encourage creative thinking, intellectual reasoning, and exploration of humanities, culture and global dynamics. These skills fuel a passion for helping students to achieve global competitiveness in collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking. The Bachelor of Arts in Art Education program prepares students to become certified art teachers while fostering their own development as practicing artists. Application Requirements
Completed applications include an official high school transcript, application fee ($50 domestic/$60 international) and optional official ACT/SAT score (the University of Kentucky is test-optional for admission and scholarships through the 2028-29 academic year).
