Application Procedure for Traditional
BSN Students (no prior degree in any area)

March 1 is the deadline for receipt of all application materials to the four-year BSN Program. This affects all sophomores applying for fall or spring admission to the professional nursing curriculum.

High School Seniors or Students with No College Credit

Students not currently enrolled at UK must apply to undergraduate admissions and may select pre-nursing as their major. See www.uky.edu/Admissions for the application to UK. This is a general admission to the university and to the College of NUrsing. Admission to pre-nursing does not guarantee admission to the Professional Nursing Curriculum.

Transfer Students Not Currently Enrolled at UK

Students not currently enrolled at UK must apply to undergraduate admissions and may select pre-nursing as their major. See www.uky.edu/Admissions for the application to UK. Transcripts will be reviewed for completion of nursing prerequisites and eligibility requirements. Students who meet the requirements will be considered for admission to the Professional Nursing Curriculum. Students who lack nursing prerequisites will be considered for pre-nursing admission.

Acceptance Into the Program

Students are admitted for fall or spring semesters. Admission is competitive. Once the College of Nursing receives an application, a student's academic records are reviewed to determine eligibility for admission to the Professional Nursing Curriculum. Final decisions will be made after spring semester grades are available. If you are a UK student, you do not need to submit spring grades. If you are enrolled at another institution, you will need to submit spring grades. We will accept a grade report or unofficial transcript from your school’s student system until an official transcript is available.

 Additional Requirements for Admitted Students

  • Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or State Registered Nurse Aide (SRNA) course
  • Completion of a criminal background check
  • Proof of current immunizations
  • Verification of CPR/First Aid certification through the American Heart Association

Further details regarding these requirements are included in the student’s acceptance letter.
