The Hope Center provides a free health clinic on site at the Hope Center on Loudon Avenue. The clinic is staffed by one full-time family nurse practitioner and one staff person, who work closely with the Lexington Fayette County Health Department. Seeing more than 500 patients monthly, it is a fast-paced environment that not only provides care for the clients, but also as a liaison for other services that the clients may need.
The nurse practitioner also provides health education classes to the clients on a variety of health care topics.
The Hope Center Clinic cares for homeless and at-risk persons by providing life-sustaining and life-rebuilding services that are comprehensive and address underlying causes. Typically, homeless individuals do not have access to regular health care. As a consequence, they develop health problems that become compounded by years of neglect and their health problems help keep them homeless.
The clinic serves as an excellent clinical education site for UK nurse practitioner and public health nursing students as well.
