Twittering - and why I'm no good at it
OK - I tried doing Twitter as you said we should in the UK Blue2.0 workshop, Patsy, but I can't do it.  Twittering is for people who have moved from their personal computers for main communication channels to mobile devices.  Since I'm phone-ophobic, I've simply moved my desktop into my Blackberry and try to read emails on that little screen like I know what I'm reading... but certainly don't take advantage of the great variety of mobile technologies - rarely even text messaging via phone.

So, when I read this latest post from Chris Brogan who advises businesses on how to use social media and social netorks, I finally get why I am no good at it.  "I do a great deal of twittering while in meetings, while between jobs, while out and about. I tweet at events. Having a mobile app helps with that a great deal. Being tethered to the desk takes 2/3 of the fun out of Twitter."  OK, good, so it makes sense that Twitter is not fun or even useful for me - I'm desk computer addicted.

Brogan has thousands of Twitter followers and says, "It’s a lot like showing up to a very busy, very loud cocktail party, but also a business meeting, plus a focus group, plus several other social situations. Twitter, unfiltered, is like someone with mind reading powers walking down 38th Street in Manhattan."  He uses two applications to manage this high volume of communications: TweetDeck when on laptop and  Twittelator Pro when on phone.  Good advice for somebody else, but not for me... not going there...

interesting thoughts

I hadn't quite thought about it that way - I just don't do enough of the mobile posting to anything. But, you know, I LOVE my fb update line. Go figure.
